About Our School

St Macartan's Primary School has been educating children from the local and surrounding areas since 1898. We take pride in and value our Catholic ethos but welcome families of other faiths to join our community.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to St Macartan’s School a vibrant Catholic primary school where faith, sustainability, and hope converge to create a unique educational experience.

At St Macartan’s School, we are committed to instilling in our students a profound love for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Our mission goes beyond academics; it's about nurturing responsible stewards of the environment. Together, we are weaving sustainability into the fabric of our daily lives and teaching our children the importance of caring for our planet.

Our school community believes that our faith is a guiding light that inspires us to be compassionate, just, and responsible citizens of the world. Through our Catholic values, we teach students the importance of empathy, service, and caring for the vulnerable among us, including our Earth.

Our sustainability initiatives extend throughout our curriculum, incredible, expansive and natural school grounds, and community. We have implemented eco-friendly practices and engage students in hands-on projects that cultivate a profound connection to nature. Through gardening, recycling, conservation efforts and fair-trade initiatives, we empower our students to become agents of positive change.

I invite you to explore our website or visit our school and enjoy an informative tour with our Year 6 student leaders, to learn more about our sustainability programs, curriculum, and the wonderful projects our students are involved in. Together, we are sowing the seeds of sustainability, nurturing young hearts, and sustaining hope for a better, more sustainable future.

Should you consider St Macartan’s School as your partner in education. We look forward to welcoming you into our vibrant community.

Warm regards,

Colleen McGreal

Principal

Empower learners by providing an innovative, encouraging and nurturing environment that fosters success and personal growth.
Develop a sense of responsibility for the natural environment, an awareness of our multicultural background and to become a responsible and active member of the communities in which we live.
Celebrate the uniqueness, potential and diversity of all members of the community in which we live, in a spirit of cooperation, tolerance, unity and compassion.

Democratic Principles

Teaching and Learning Programs at St. Macartan’s support and promote the Principles and Practice of Democracy including a commitment to:

Governance

St Macartan's Parish Primary School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).

MACS governs and operates 292 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills and hope to live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Because the good work of educating the young is a co-responsible task led by every member of the Catholic school community, School Advisory Councils have been established to provide a crucial point of connection between the wider school community and school leaders.

This governance model was designed to ease the administrative burden on our schools and parishes, allow parish priests to focus on the mission of education in the parish, enable greater collaboration between schools and ensure greater consistency in school policies and procedures.
